Asian Development Outlook 2019: Strengthening Disaster Resilience

Developing Asia seems to be on a path of moderating growth as a recovery in global trade and economic activity that began in 2017 loses steam. Estimated regional growth remains robust but slowed in 2018 to 5.9% and is expected to slow further to 5.7% this year and 5.6% in 2020. Minus the newly industrialized economies, regional expansion at 6.4% in 2018 is envisaged softening to 6.2% this year and 6.1% in 2020. Although regional inflation crept up slightly to 2.5% last year on rising oil prices and currency depreciation, it remains well below the 10-year historical average of 3.2%. Headline inflation is forecast to remain at 2.5% in the next 2 years.
